In collaboration with Hillel’s Jewish Graduate Student NetworkMoishe House Philadelphia and The Collaborative, we invite you to this season of Topics on Tap, our multi-week speaker series held in a bar! Each session is independent of the others, and no previous Jewish knowledge or experience is required. Topics on Tap is always free of charge and no RSVPs are necessary. This season's theme is "Wisdom in Our Midst".

This week's topic: "What is a Promise?" with Molly Sinderbrand

Molly argues that when you make a promise, you are giving a right to the person receiving the promise. That is, instead of creating an obligation for yourself, you are creating a right for another person. In this session of Topics, we will discuss this promisee-centric conception of promises, and look at some empirical evidence that supports it.

Molly Sinderbrand is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania.  She is (or should be) currently writing her dissertation on the moral motivations that push us to keep our promises.  When procrastinating writing her dissertation, Molly is very active in, and really adores, the Jewish community in Philadelphia.  She is the education chair of the Graduate Network Programming Board, and a member of Mekor Habracha.
